Well, the last time I checked, calamities were not a bonus.  Is there a link to disaster preparedness?  Talk about tasteless.

If there was a really a genuine drive to inform people...I'll leave you to decide.  Whoever the "friends of Gibo" are...T-I-M-I-N-G.

Oh, yes. We do want to learn about preparing for a disaster...

As I walked past a busy section of the market that had a lot of food stalls, I notice that these businesses were really quite on the warpath.  Signs were everywhere and a lot of people should notice them.  What struck me was the sign that said:

Shawarma on Bans

A few hours later, while I was in the supermarket, I overheard some promo-girls pushing some yoghurt.  They made sure they stressed the available flavors by saying:

Good afternoon, sir.  Try the new (bleep) yogurt.  Available in MAYN-GO (mango) and STROW-BERRY (strawberry).

Overheard a conversation between the girls and some dude in that section, and it went:

Girl:  Sir, try nyo po yung yogurt.  May iba pong flavors.

Dude: Ah, YOGART.

Girl:  Opo, YOGART.

Okay, gimme a HAMBORGER and an EPOL Pie!  Some classics never die, like my grandma's KET (cat).

Ever since I made the big switch from corporate lackey to an almost home-based freelancing monkey, I'd been enjoying a lot of things I hadn't noticed in quite a while.  I'd been taking a lot of walks and listening to a lot of music, just matching the steps to whatever beat I that's flooding my auditory canals.  I love having the natural high music gives me, pure and simple, no visuals needed.  Imagining the various combinations of instruments as if they were in front of me and infecting me with whatever message the artist wants me to hear.  For that, I'd like to thank a lot of my friends for sharing their collections with me and the net for making it possible to get music, even the old ones that I haven't heard for years.  Oh, and thanks to the artists, bands and composers that jived in that small electronic box made in China.

As I explore the bliss of mp3-based music madness, I admit that I still have some stuff on my iPod that haven't even heard since I got the darned thing last year.  As an 80s kid, I think I was blessed belonging to a decade that made it possible for me to experience the evolution of a lot of music and I made it a rule to experiment with my collection.  A friend got me into indie, some brods and friends got me into getting classic rock and a lot of 70s rock, of course, there was a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s, too.

I remember last year when a weird urge got me to check out the band Chicago.  I thought to myself, "There has to be more to Chicago than If You Leave Me Now" and I was sure that Peter Cetera was not just all for the glory of love. I ended up surfing the net to find out more about Chicago.  After all, "Saturday in The Park" was and still is a pretty infectious tune.  So, I did end up with a number of Chicago tunes in the old iTunes.  And that was it, history..except for "25 or 6 to 4"  which immediately became a favorite of mine.

What's with "25 or 6 to 4," anyway?  I think it's the play of the brass winds...and that crazy wah-wah guitar work from Terry Kath.  He still makes me want to stretch my fingers on a fretboard.  No wonder the song always ended up as part of Chicago compilation albums.

Then there's "Question 67 & 68.My goodness!  This is a song from back when Chicago was still known as Chicago Transit Authority (1969)!  I don't even remember this song from any of my uncles' playlists in the 70s.  I heard this song again three days ago while I was walking and I set the iPod on shuffle.  I don't know where my amusement with this song stemmed from but, in my opinion, it kind of sounded a bit like the Rocky Theme and it made me walk a bit faster than usual.

Chicago in my ear made the steps I took on that day seem lighter than usual.

...when you pick out a red collared tee to wear.  Gotta have some formality, a collar can do it.  Drop the round-neck tee.

After x number of hours, you then notice some Coca-Cola employees wearing the same hue as you.  Your eyes meet theirs as they probably wonder why you're not hurrying like them.

You walk behind a group of people at SM Megamall and they're all wearing red.  You amuse yourself by pretending you're part of their group.

One of those days, it's just one of those days.

Tomorrow I'll wear black.

After weeks of just rushing out of the house and doing all sorts of things, I finally got my wish.

Nakatambay din sa wakas.

Got some time to clear my head of the nasties.

Special thanks to Khao Pad over at the Ortigas Home Depot and the local Starbucks for an afternoon's worth of tambay.

Back to the grind!!!

In the last three days, I think I have consumed at least 10 bananas.  I've been snacking a lot for the last 2 days and after eating some salty chips, I've always found myself chomping on a banana after a few minutes.

I am going bananas.  As i write this one, I think I am on banana #12.

Last night, I thought I'd indulge a bit.  Never mind if it was 11:00 pm already.

Bonum cervisia laetificat cor hominis.

Nothing beats the feeling of cold beer slowly caressing one's dry throat after a long day, and boy, did I have a long day.  A cold brew, in my opinion, makes one forget some negatives and substitutes good vibes for them.

Good beer gladdens the human heart.

Cogito ergo doleo.

Cogito sumere potum alterum.

Carpe diem! -- save that for another day.

...nothing.

"What's on my mind?" is a different subject.

My brain sorely misses the brain cells it lost last night.  I think my thoughts for today were there, too.

While having lunch with my colleagues today, we came up with a list of items that should be silly on any menu:

  • Battered Chicken (Domestically Abused Chicken?)
  • Dreaded Pork Chop (afraid of fat?)

Corny?

Thoughts of the hungry man on an empty stomach.

Whoa, Multiply, how have you been?  It's been like...months since I last put something of (in)significant value here.

Um, so, I guess, you've heard, me and fb, we've been playin'  around...no, not that kind, silly.  Facebook.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you probably have something against the new layout too, but really, who gives a hoot?

One of these days, dear Multiply, we'll get some music up and running again.

'TIl then, adios.  See you later or whenever.

Saw this on Rio's ..interesting enough to do it as well.

What Brian Means
You are full of energy. You are spirited and boisterous.
You are bold and daring. You are willing to do some pretty outrageous things.
Your high energy sometimes gets you in trouble. You can have a pretty bad temper at times.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

Growing up with a music loving family has its rewards and downside.

Rewards? All those years hanging around the house on sundays with the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, America and Barry Manilow sure influenced my ears at an early age.  Listening to my uncles play the guitar and some 70's rock records (and yes, DISCO) forced my brain to opening up to more genres of music.

Downside? Having a fairly good memory of things and exposure to different forms of music.  Whenever a familiar tune is on, I find myself singing along regardless if the song is cool or baduy, ancient or new.   LSS attack??  Sometimes, you end up singing a song in your head for the rest of the day.

Classic example of LSS triggering an entire soundtrack in my head for an entire day:

Time/ Date:  9 am Saturday, Aug. 9

I enter the bathrom, I hear the neighbor's stereo playing out loud...of all tunes...AIR SUPPLY*!  What's even worse was I end up singing in the shower "I'm lying alone with my head on the phone , Thinking of you till it hurts" yada yada yada yikes!!

I get out of the bath and I'm still singing. I go out of the house to get a cab going to QC...and I'm still singing..crap!  The hair at the back of my head started to stand...

I finally hail a cab...music this time is Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs' "Wooly Bully."   Go 60's classic rock!  I start humming along.."wooly bully, wooly bully!"..mixed in with "all out of love" yada yada yikes again!

What's nice about the whole exercise was I remembered Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket and the scene the where the marines entered Hue city.  Wooly Bully was the song playing during that scene...

Oh great!  Now I'm in soundtrack mode.  What classic rock songs from the 60's were prominent in some of the movies I saw before?  Hmmm...

I start humming in my head..."Prune Juice, you make my bowels loose..you make everything, groovy..Prune Juice..I think I love ya"..Yeah!  The Troggs' Wild Thing.  "Wild Thing you make my heart sing!"..from the 90's Major League (with Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes and Tom Berenger).   Oh wait..one more scene...remembered a line and a scene from a movie. "I once caught a fish this big", then the lead character started singing and dancing to the Kingsmen's 60's hit "Louie louie" . I remembered 92's Dave (with Kevin Cline and Sigourney Weaver).

Ok....now I have a playlist in my little head.I start smiling in the cab and hum by myself regardless of what was playing on the taxi's radio.

Now..Imagine if I grew up with a family of dancers.

*note:  a friend said to me that we all go through an Air Supply phase...holy sh#t!

care to listen what's in my head yesterday?  sample here.

I hit a brick wall.  Immovable.

Stalemate with the situation.

You try to push but the wall is just there.  Immovable.

To hell with that.

Next time, I'm looking for a door.

Mabuhay ang mahilig sa bawal!
